Manchester’s Shy Luv has been very busy over the past year unveiling more and more of their funk-laden, indie-electronic tracks that sum up the party spirit of their home city. Now upping the group from a duo to a quartet for their immersive live shows, Shy Luv are still treating us online new music junkies. This year we’ve selected ‘Joyrider’, ‘Pharaohs’, ‘Like A River’ and ‘Bloodsucker’ as List Picks and now we’d like to add ‘Lungs’ to that roster. One of their most pop songs to date, ‘Lungs’ is a romantic endeavour of punchy, retro percussions and generous synths. It’s a story that comes together beautifully with the HUMANS-directed music video, filmed in Barcelona and the experience described by the band: “We wanted the video for Lungs to really capture the feelings we were trying to create with the song, so when we got the treatment through from the directors we were super excited because we both knew the direction they wanted to go was exactly what was in our heads. Shooting the video was all super surreal. On the day when we arrived at this Mars-like red clay quarry outside Barcelona to shoot the band shots, we had to keep pinching ourselves to bring us back to earth a bit. The whole production and directing team absolutely smashed it, we kinda felt like kids at Christmas when we got the first draft of the video back.” It’s the nice finishing touch to Shy Luv’s recently released Lungs EP. - HT
